Hi, I'm

Adarsh Kumar

Master's Research in AI, IIT Delhi  ·  Mechanistic Interpretability  ·  LLMs  ·  Graphs

I'm doing Master's research in Artificial Intelligence at IIT Delhi with Prof. Sayan Ranu, working on the mechanistic interpretability of LLMs and graphs. Before this I built GenAI products end-to-end at Vmock, after graduating from IIT Roorkee.

01 About

My research is on the mechanistic interpretability of large language models and graphs — reverse-engineering the internal structure these models learn, rather than treating them as black boxes you can only measure from the outside. It sits at the point where representation learning, graph machine learning and interpretability meet.

Before this I spent a year at Vmock, building production GenAI systems that shipped to real users at scale. Working with models that closely is what pushed me toward understanding what is actually going on inside them.

02 Career Trajectory

  1. Master's Research, Artificial Intelligence

    Jul 2026 — Present

    Indian Institute of Technology Delhi

    • Research on the mechanistic interpretability of large language models and graphs, advised by Prof. Sayan Ranu.
    • Investigating the internal circuits and learned representations behind model behaviour, spanning graph machine learning and LLM interpretability.
  2. Data Scientist — Top Coder

    Jun 2025 — Jun 2026

Vmock India Pvt Ltd · Gurugram

    • Owned end-to-end backend product development in Python, architecting scalable GenAI APIs powering the core resume-optimiser platform.
    • Designed and built an AI job-description parser from scratch with LangChain and Langfuse — full ownership from architecture to deployment.
    • Engineered resume-to-JD matching using semantic similarity and NLP techniques.
    • Implemented RAG pipelines for in-house models, materially improving recommendation accuracy and relevance.
    • Built an AI agent system with LLM orchestration, Mem0 memory, PostgreSQL and Langfuse tracing.
  3. Research Intern — Mathematics

    Jan 2024 — Jun 2024

IIT Roorkee · under Prof. Sanjeev Kumar

    • Applied signal processing to learn wavelet representations of 2D signals (Python, MATLAB).
    • Developed deep learning methods to predict DWT coefficients for image compression.
    • Used CNNs to predict custom wavelet filters, optimising compression in the compressed domain.
  4. Research Intern — Electrical Engineering

    Feb 2024 — Apr 2024

IIT Roorkee · under Prof. Soham Chakrabarty

    • Dynamic obstacle avoidance for mobile robots using LiDAR and IMU.

    Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee

03 Projects

Deep RL for IC Macro Placement

B.Tech Project · IIT Roorkee, under Prof. G. N. Pillai

Macro placement framed as sequential decision-making. A dual-branch convolutional encoder (ResNet-18 global context + local fusion) reads pixel-mask state — position feasibility, wire cost, occupancy — and feeds policy and value heads, replacing purely hypergraph-based approaches with spatial visual reasoning over the canvas.

On Ariane RISC-V, DDPG reached 155,811 HPWL against PPO's 179,802; on the heterogeneous Adaptec-1 SoC, PPO led with 914,196 HPWL. Both converged stably with effective overlap avoidance and congestion control.

Chandrayaan Moon Mapping Silver

Inter IIT Tech Meet 11.0 · ISRO problem statement

Applied ESRGANs to upscale lunar imagery from 128×128 to 2048×2048, then implemented image stitching to assemble the tiles into coherent high-resolution lunar maps. Won a Silver Medal against the other IITs.

S-Wave — Learned Sparse Wavelets

Signal representation learning · grew out of my wavelet research at IIT Roorkee

Learning sparse wavelet representations tailored to a specific signal, instead of picking a fixed basis off the shelf. An autoencoder-style setup trains a FilterConv model to predict low-pass filters while minimising reconstruction loss through a differentiable DWT, so the basis itself is learned end-to-end.

Builds on Adaptive Wavelet Distillation from Neural Networks through Interpretations (Ha et al., 2021), currently implemented for 1D signals.
